Why a Lok Awaas Yatra?

by bhairab last modified 2010-01-22 18:31

Rural India today is confronted with difficult choices. Rapid energy intensive development using unsustainable urban blueprints promise modern amenities at the expense of natural resources. At the same time status quo characterised by poor living conditions with little access to basic services and meagre earnings needs to be broken. Lok Awaas Yatra thus explores the middle path; it celebrates the achievements of select initiatives in rural habitat development that have improved the quality of life without environmental losses.

The Yatra is designed to facilitate an exposure for rural habitat development practitioners to new ways of thinking, new models of development and new technology and tools that hold the promise of sustainable development of rural habitat.  It will help build a common understanding of the practical underpinnings of sustainable habitat development at the grassroots and contribute to a more enabling policy environment for people centered and low carbon habitat.

Why should you join the Lok Awaas Yatra?

In this journey of collective learning, your fellow travellers will be panchayat leaders, functionaries development professionals, grass roots workers and academia. Through the Yatra, you can expect an intensive 5 days of visit to projects and interaction with key resource people and experts.
